Sony is fortifying its PlayStation Network online service with the addition of two-step verification for player accounts. Come from Soccer 13 pools and matches
The two-step process adds an extra layer of security by asking for two passwords — a verification code sent to an authorized mobile phone and a user's original account details — whenever someone tries to sign in on a connected device.
It's hoped the new measure will act as a second line of defence in the event of account information being "compromised," as it was during 2011's infamous hack.
"Passwords can be compromised if you use the same password for multiple accounts, click on malicious links, open phishing emails and other methods," reads Sony's landing page.
"If your password is compromised and becomes known to someone other than yourself, your account will still require a verification code to gain access when you activate 2-Step Verification."
The console maker has put together an extensive FAQ for those looking to use the new security measure, explaining step-by-step how to enable two-step verification, and if need be, how to switch it off.
